The IRS has a great way to set up your online account. If you have an existing account, you can still log in. But if you have not yet created an irs.gov account, it is much easier than in the past.
Simply click here to be taken to the IRS account page. Using ID.me, you will use your driver's license, state ID, or passport to verify your identity. You will also need to take a selfie video with a smartphone or use a computer with a webcam. If you start the process on a desktop computer, you will have the option to send a link to your phone to do the selfie.
If ID.me wants to have a video chat, do not be alarmed. This is normal and will only take a few minutes. They will want to see your face, and your ID and other verification documents.
Our office is happy to help you set up this account if needed. There is a $40 fee for my staff to help you. Just call the office to schedule a time.
